About NBHA
The National Barrel Horse Association, now headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, is the largest barrel racing organization in the world. In 1992, the NBHA revolutionized the barrel racing industry by pioneering the divisional format, which allows riders of all skill levels a chance to win money and prizes in a barrel racing competition. The divisional barrel racing gives all competitors from beginners to professionals, from youth to seniors, a chance to compete, learn and succeed in barrel racing. This divisional format encourages riders to improve their skills and work toward the higher divisions, while still having a chance to be competitive.
NBHA has over 23,000 members of all ages across the United States and affiliated countries. NBHA members compete at District, State, National and World Championship levels. Each state is divided into competition districts where members compete for money and prizes at a local area. This allows and encourages the rider to grow and improve their skills as a barrel racer close to home. The ultimate goal of NBHA competition is to provide all barrel racers, regardless of age, sex, or experience, the opportunity to compete for prize money and awards in local events throughout the year so they may qualify to compete in State, National, and World Championships.
Whether you’re an experienced rodeo rider, a top futurity trainer, a weekend jackpot competitor or a beginning barrel racer, NBHA is right for you! The format is designed primarily for the local weekend competitor. You will have the opportunity to compete for more prize money and awards close to your home plus State, National and World titles.

Why should I join NBHA?
“I’m a barrel racer and I want to know why you think I should spend my money with your organization”?
Good question! Here are a few facts for you to consider before you bring out your wallet and join.
First: All your awards $ stays in Indiana. Yep, that’s right! The $3 awards fee is divided up $2 goes towards the district you belong to (except for the roving district 00) and $1 goes towards your state show. So, money stays locally and awards are usually bought locally, which is a win-win for the state of Indiana and you. What goes back to the organization that is now in Texas is the $30 sanctioning fee collected from show committees and your membership. To join, you pay your membership online. If you need help, feel free to contact your District Director who will assist you. Indiana will take care of the rest.
Second: The State of Indiana is divided into 6 districts, so there is one close to your neighborhood. A good deal since prices seem to keep going up and up. You will ride with your district family, cheer them on, pray for them, along with helping them succeed. NBHA is truly a family. Please feel free to check out our district page for shows close to you and see if our organization is a fit for your pocketbook.
